about

Alex Bau has come a long way and is without any doubt one of the most experienced techno producers up to date. People speaking about the “Bau Sound” often refer to his solid bassy grounded tracks aiming to and working best on the dancelfoor as he proved with a vast list of releases throughout the last 20 plus years on labels ranging from worldwidly known players like Cocoon or CLR to rather smaller, but not less valuable labels like his very own CREDO for instance.

Where does a releasedate on April 1st come from for an album called “Last Album On Earth”? Is it a joke, on purpose or maybe both? Is there a deeper meaning behind this unusual combintion of time and artistic testimony? Is this really the last album on earth?

“When the world came to a halt in early 2020, it soon became pretty clear that things wouldn ́t return to normal anytime soon”, Alex says. “It crossed plans like never before, especially on the artistic side of life, and I wasn`t sure if it makes sense at all to continue woking on music aiming to the dancelfoor when there was no one on it”.

But times not only changed because of the pandemic, and even if it looks like everything went to back to normal, for Alex things are not the way as before. “With all the fast pace these days and the consumption behaviour of the audience it simply hurts too much to spend sweat, blood and (t/y)ears on producing a personal statement and expression of your innerself and in the end literally no one actually tries to listen to the whole story in the way you try to tell.”.

Music artists always expect an album to be something unique and special beside the common work on releasing single dancetracks on a regular basis. In Alex` eyes, these times have gone. “With all the streaming bullshit, people tend to skip through tracks in a much faster way as the music actually needs to unfold it`s magic and message, so how can you make people even listening to a complete album. I mean, I know, it`s about club tracks and the are supposed to be played on the dancefoor, that`s what they are made for, no doubt, but... taking this into consideration, it actually would make much more sense to release them step by step, but with this compilation of music, with all these tracks building up on each other, sharing the same vibe and atmosphere while still carrying an own, individual character, I couldn`t tear them apart. You wouldn ́t do with your kids neither, or?”

To reveal the secret: there will for sure be more and fresh music by Alex, however not anymore as an album necessarily. “It`s in my blood, I can`t stop, just as djing, but there was enough time to think about how to stay true to myself, and even though there will be new music of course, I simply can ́t fll this gap by myself which should be flled by an artistically interested audience...”.
